If you’re a comp kid, you know Joey Dowling. It’s likely you’ve taken her class at New York City Dance Alliance or NYC’s Broadway Dance Center—and worked up quite a sweat doing so. Joey, with her flawless technique, standout stage presence and undeniable determination, is making her mark on the dance world one giant leap at a time. She has performed as a Rockette at Radio City Music Hall, in the film versions of Chicago and The Producers and on Broadway in Dance of the Vampires and Sweet Charity. She also worked as the associate choreographer for the Tony Award–winning Broadway musical In the Heights.
Growing up at her mother Sheryl Dowling’s dance studio, The Dance Club, in Orem, UT, Joey was set on making it big. She became known for her versatility and ability to pick up any style, but even more for her competitive personality. Joey gained national recognition this year when she choreographed a Broadway routine for Randi and Evan on Season 5 of “So You Think You Can Dance.” But this busy bee doesn’t just dance—she designs! Joey and her sister, Jacki Ford, are the owners of the Jo+Jax line of dancewear. Read on for The Dirt from this go-getter!
