Performance Update!Abby Rasminsky | October 18, 2007 Hey all! This week is a pretty mild performance week for me, with only one show and one open rehearsal on the schedule, but both are pretty exciting! Tuesday night Kat and I went to see James Sewell Ballet at the Joyce Theater, which is a mid-sized venue. The program opened with a solo performed by James Sewell himself—a very quirky and cool dance that involved a lot of interesting arm work. It looked like a very complicated exercise of pat your head and rub your belly. The last dance was set to an opera—each little vignette was a sort of acting out of the music, so some were sad, some romantic, some funny. And right in the middle, one of the dancers sang a love song. Ever tried to work on pointe AND sing all at once? Not easy. But one of my favorite young dancers was in it—Caroline Fermin, who I saw dance Twyla Tharp's "Baker's Dozen" at Juilliard last spring, is now in the company. It was nice to see her dance again. And tomorrow I am headed to an open rehearsal for Christopher Wheeldon's new company, Morphoses. I am SO excited! I'll tell you all about it next week. Love, Abby
