Happy Tuesday!

Kat Holmes | November 13, 2007

Hi Guys! Hope everyone is having a good week so far...

Here at DS, we have just sent our January issue out the door, and are now in the middle of prepping for February. I think you're going to love what we have in store for you in 2008!

In the meantime, I have a schedule full of shows lately... Last week, Abby and I went to see British choreographer Russell Maliphant at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The piece, "Cast No Shadow," was in collaboration with a filmmaker and each of the three sections featured an abstract film running behind or in front of the dancers. In my favorite section, the third (titled "Small Boats"), a film screen covered the entire front of the stage, top to bottom, and the dancers were behind the movie. At certain points, the film would fade away and you'd see live dancing in one corner, or in the center as the film continued on both sides. It was really amazing, both technologically and choreographically!

Tonight, fabulous DS intern Jana and I are going to see Complexions Contemporary Ballet at the Joyce Theater. Then, on Thursday, I am going to see Batsheva at BAM. I am really excited about that one--if you read my Modern story about Gaga technique in our October issue, you will recall how much I enjoy Ohad Naharin's work! I will give you the update on those next week, most likely.

catch ya later,
Kat
