Awesome Ailey
Brianne Carlon | December 17, 2008

Last night, my friend Laura and I were lucky enough to attend one of the 50th anniversary performances of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Even though the weather was wet and cold outside, everyone was decked out in their best and looking very glamorous!
The show opened with Blues Suite, which was set in the 1920s. My favorite performances are the ones that inject a little humor, and this definitely fit the bill. We saw what happens when one too many guys show up at a bar (with not enough lady friends) and what happens when a girl is just a little too into herself.
Next, Ailey II showcased some highlights from their season. Those guys are powerful!
Finally, the show ended with a performance of the legendary Revelations. It was so emotional and moving and perfect for the holiday season. I am so happy I got to see this in person, since I had learned about it in dance history class back in college, and I hope everyone gets to see it at some point!
