William Forsythe Continues to Be Awesome
William Forsythe is probably best known as a ballet revolutionary. His high-octane pieces are full of exaggerated extensions and daredevil-ish, off-balance partnering. (If you're a ballet fan, you've probably seen a major company dance his "In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated"--watch Sylvie Guillem perform the final pas de deux from the piece here.)
Recently, however, Forsythe has turned his attention to multi-disiciplinary projects. His latest, an interactive website called "Synchronous Objects for One Flat Thing, reproduced," launches today. It's the product of a collaboration with Ohio State University's Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design, exploring different ways to look at Forsythe's "One Flat Thing, reproduced" (choreographed in 2000). And, um, it's seriously cool.
