Merce Cunningham at 90
Margaret Fuhrer | April 10, 2009
Merce Cunningham is a living legend. Frequently described as the world's greatest choreographer, he's been creating groundbreaking contemporary works, illuminated by his distinctive, supremely controlled dance vocabulary, for decades.

Next week, the Merce Cunningham Dance Company will honor Cunningham's 90th birthday at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The highlight of the 4-day celebration is the premiere of Nearly Ninety, a new work by Cunningham with music composed and performed by John Paul Jones, Takehisa Kosugi, and Sonic Youth. It's an impressive collaboration, and sure to be a fruitful one; if you're in NYC, don't miss it. See bam.org and merce.org for more information.
