Get Up Close and Personal with "Whipped Cream"

May 25, 2017

Since the NYC premiere of Alexei Ratmansky’s Whipped Cream at American Ballet Theatre’s spring gala Monday night, the DS editors haven’t stopped talking about its creepy-cute sets and costumes, created by artist Mark Ryden. Well, the obsession is about to get even crazier, because we just heard that Ryden’s artwork for the ballet is now on display in not one, but TWO locations in NYC.

If you’re in Chelsea between now and July 21, definitely stop by the Paul Kasmin Gallery for “Mark Ryden: The Art of Whipped Cream.” Featuring the drawings, sketches and paintings that served as the basis for Whipped Cream‘s sets, props and—of course—costumes, it’s sure to be a super-inspiring look at the Ratmansky-Ryden collab.

And if you’re lucky enough to be seeing American Ballet Theatre during its Met season—or just chilling in Lincoln Center’s gorgeous plaza—be sure to hit the Arnold and Marie Schwarz Gallery Met in the Metropolitan Opera House’s South Lobby to see more of Mark Ryden’s artworks for Whipped Cream. Holiday weekend outings, anyone?
