Hanukkah Songs with a Dance Spirit Twist

December 10, 2012

Happy Hanukkah! To celebrate this festive time of year, I’ve taken two of my favorite Hanukkah songs and fudged the lyrics to make them about ballet, because… why not? Enjoy!

“Ballet Class, Oh Ballet Class” (sing to the tune of “Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah”)

Ballet class, oh ballet class

Find spots at the barre now

Let’s start pliéing

It’s easy, I know how.

Gather in the center

for pirouettes and beats.

Petite allegro’s tricky

but strengthens my feet.

And as we’re sautéing

Our class time is running low.

I’ve tried with all my might

And I’ll be back tomorrow night

To keep training, ’cause I love dance so.

I’ve tried with all my might

And I’ll be back tomorrow night

To keep training, ’cause I love dance so.

“Pointe Shoes, Pointe Shoes, Pointe Shoes” (sing to the tune of “Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel”)

I have a pair of pointe shoes

I wear them everyday

For toe hops, turns and piqués

I love to do ballet

{Chorus}

Oh, pointe shoes, pointe shoes, pointe shoes

I wear them everyday

For toe hops, turns and piqués

I love to do ballet

They complete every outfit

of leotard and tights.

I rock them in rehearsals

and on performance nights.

{Chorus}

Oh, pointe shoes, pointe shoes, pointe shoes

I wear them everyday

For toe hops, turns and piqués

I love to do ballet

Though this pointework’s tricky

I know I’ll never quit

‘Cause at home for inspiration,

I’ve this month’s Dance Spirit.

{Chorus}

Oh, pointe shoes, pointe shoes, pointe shoes

I wear them everyday

For toe hops, turns and piqués

I love to do ballet
