NYCB Does High Fashion, Part Bajillion

May 6, 2013

Here’s yet another reason to be jealous of New York City Ballet’s talented dancers: These days, it seems like they get to play dress-up in designer duds allllll the time!

Exhibit A: Following in the glamorous footsteps of Rodarte, J. Mendel and Valentino Garavani, fashion star Joseph Altuzarra has designed costumes that will be unveiled at NYCB’s spring gala tomorrow night. They’re for a new pas de deux by Christopher Wheeldon, featuring Tiler Peck and Robert Fairchild (those newly-engaged lovebirds!). And it looks like they’re going to be beautiful. Here are Altuzarra’s sketches:

…and here are some behind-the-scenes photos of a fitting he had with Peck. Love that blue!

Exhibit B: In the latest installment of Vogue‘s “Punk Stories” video series, NYCB’s Emilie Gerrity, Lauren Lovette and Peck go super-edgy in a film by Emily Kai Bock. Sporting goth makeup and out-there looks from fashion line Undercover, they swirl through a bunch of unlikely landscapes, including a desolate beach and a retro roller-skating rink. (The choreography is by fellow NYCB-er Justin Peck.)
