Did that headline get your attention? Ballerina superstar Misty Copeland has landed a role in Disney's upcoming live-action version of The Nutcracker, called The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Now, we're not entirely sure what "live-action Nutcracker" means because, well, the live-action Nutcracker we know is onstage every December. But it sounds like this will be a non-dance version, with Copeland cast as the lead ballerina. In fact, she'll star in the film's only dance scene. You probably know that The Nutcracker is based off of a story by German writer E.T.A. Hoffman. But you might not know that the original is...kind of dark. While we're bummed about the lack of Misty time, we're definitely excited to watch Disney run with this one. Copeland's prodigious acting talents are on display every time she dances a dramatic role, and she's already graced the big screen in the documentary A Ballerina's Tale. But this is a feature film, and will probably catapult her to even higher levels of stardom (as if chilling with the President and having a Barbie created in her likeness isn't enough. It isn't.). You go girl.
