Apparently, Eating Rice = Sweet Moves

March 23, 2017

If you follow my posts closely, you know I’m low-key obsessed with the wonderfully weird music videos (with themed dances!) that Japanese artists regularly produce. There was last holiday season’s Love Dance, the 24k grannies… But the brand-spanking-new Rice Dance might just be the one to beat.

I mean, this newest contender has SO MUCH going for it. There’s the girl-group vibe of the dancing trio: a 60-year-old who goes by “Tachiflower,” plus two younger women dancing backup. Also the catchy (if obvious) lyrics—infinite variations on “Rice is nice!” / “Healthy and happy” / “No rice, no life!” And of course, the crazy-clever choreo—I had no idea there were so many ways to mime eating a bowl of rice with chopsticks!

But what do y’all think? Is it just too weird for Japan’s National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations to produce this video/song/dance? Will you and your squad be mastering the Rice Dance, too?
