Raise a Bat to Freedom: Hamilton Hits the Ballfields
It’s officially June, which means it’s officially Tony month! (The Tony Awards are June 12, so go set your DVRs rightthissecond.) You may think that after being open on Broadway for a year, the Hamilton hype (Hamil-hype?) would have started to fizzle, but the buzz is, well, buzzier than ever. (And there’s more to come—stand by for our July/August issue, coming your way super soon.)
Between the cast members’ appearances on late-night TV shows, visits to the White House, and performing a totally casual eight shows per week, the cast and crew somehow make time to have a little fun—by way of the softball field.

That’s right: these multitalented triple-threat performers and the show’s crew members take to the Central Park ballfields between performances on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons to battle it out in the Broadway Show League, The New York Times reports. (Lin-Manuel Miranda isn’t on the team, but Christopher Jackson, Anthony Ramos, and Ephraim Sykes all are.)
And like with everything else Hamilton does, the team is unsurprisingly undefeated. (Current record: 5-0. Tony Awards foreshadowing, anyone?) “The games are a good time for the cast and crew, and the success and energy of the show definitely translates to the field,” Sykes told the Times.
So while you may not be able to get a ticket to the live show anytime soon, swing by Central Park and you just may get a glimpse of your favorite Hamil-stars. Batter up! (Click here to see the rest of the Times’ photos.)
