Broadway for Orlando is a Hit—Literally

Forget Hamilton: the “room where it happens” is the recording studio at Avatar Records in NYC.

Last week, a host of Broadway legends came together to record a cover of “What the World Needs Now is Love.” All proceeds from the song will go to the LGBT Center of Central Florida.

The result? An instant hit. Literally.

The song immediately rose to the top spot on iTunes, and it’s easy to see why. Not only will all the proceeds from the sale of the song go to a worthy cause, but the voices on this track are seemingly unreal. Name a Broadway superstar, and his or her voice pops in at some point.

Consider this our list of dream BFFs/idols/gods/goddesses.

Individually, their voices are lovely. But when they come together as one (a la “We Are the World,” the inspiration for this project), well, be prepared to shed some serious tears and have chills until next Tuesday.

Check out Playbill’s star-studded behind-the-scenes video of the recording of the song, and then get your copy here. (And start warming up your voice—you’re going to want to sing along.)
