Happy #WorldEmojiDay!

July 16, 2015

Hey guys! Are you communicating solely through the intense facial expressions of tiny yellow pictures on your phone? Well, you should be, because today is #WorldEmojiDay. Ever notice how the emoji calender is July 17? Yep, that’s today!

The best part about the Twitterverse emoji participation are the ballet synopses popping up from some of our favorite companies.

Here’s Birmingham Royal Ballet’s quick and dirty version of Romeo and Juliet:

Of course, we got in on the fun too. What do you think of our emoji version of The Sleeping Beauty?

When Alexei Ratmansky re-created
The Sleeping Beauty
for American Ballet Theatre this year
, he and his wife actually learned to read old-fashioned Russian dance notation so that they could stay true to the original choreography and designs. Fortunately for dance historians of the future, our emoji synopsis is rendered in universally understood images. Pretty much sums the ballet up, amirite?
