"SYTYCD" Is Back—with a Major Twist

February 1, 2016

Fox made us sweat a little this year, amirite? But everyone on Team “So You Think You Can Dance” can finally relax: Yesterday, word came that that most delectable of dance of shows would be back for another round. Lucky Season 13 is HAPPENING.

This time, though, it won’t be “SYTYCD” business as usual. Instead, we’ll be treated to “So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation.” What does that mean, exactly? It means that all the competitors will be between the ages of 8 and 13—aka “SYTYCD Junior.” Which could be a great idea, given the number of insanely talented littles out in the danceosphere these days.

Remember when cutie J4, then 9 years old, auditioned for Season 11 alongside his friends Cyrus and Fik-Shun? This is your chance, J4. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE! (screenshot via YouTube)

The “SYT” kids won’t be dancing on their own. Each member of the Top 10 will be paired with a “SYTYCD” All-Star, who’ll be their partner in crime week after week as they learn routines in various dance styles. Basically, it’s going to be all our favorite episodes of “Ellen,” “SYT”-ified.

Season 12 judges Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo will all be back, as will host extraordinaire (and new mommy!) Cat Deeley. Let’s take a second to imagine how stinking cute the teeny-tiny “SYT” kids are going to look next to Amazonian queen Cat, shall we?

“So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation” premieres May 30 on Fox. Mark your calendars, friends! And if you happen to be a phenomenal tween dancer, click here for information about the audition tour, which kicks off in L.A. on February 27.
