"SYTYCD" Is Officially Back! Find Out Season 14's Format

January 30, 2017

Time to breathe a big ol’ sigh of relief, friends! Fox has made it official with [Cat Deeley voice Mr. Nigel Lythgoe] and the “So You Think You Can Dance” crew: The show will return for another season this summer. And no, it won’t be featuring the shorties this time around—fun as it was to see the likes of Kida and Tate wow a national television audience.

Sorry, “Next Generation” fans. (Tate McRae and Kida Burns; photo Patrick Wymore/Fox)

Instead, “SYTYCD” will be doing a “back to basics” season, highlighting dancers 18–30, as it has for most of its 12-year run. (Lord, has it really been 12 years??) The contestants will also be paired with All-Stars to guide them through the whirlwind.

“This season is about giving our loyal fan base what they’ve been asking for,” Lythgoe said. “We’ve decided to…[bring] the best of our past formats together for an exciting new summer featuring accomplished adult competitors partnered with fan-favorite All-Star dancers. And, of course, as in past seasons, there will be new surprises which are sure to wow our viewers.” New surprises, eh? Color us intrigued.

Speaking of surprises: We know that Paula Abdul won’t be back at the judging table—she’ll be on tour—but no word yet on who’ll replace her. And even more crucially, we haven’t heard anything about the heart and soul and gorgeous hair of the show, Cat Deeley. PLEASE COME BACK TO US, CAT.

Seriously, we need this loveliness in our lives. (Adam Rose/Fox)

Auditions are happening in NYC March 4–6, and L.A. March 17–19. You can start your registration right here.
