It's Time for the NYC Dance on Camera Festival

January 27, 2015

It’s been way too long since I was last raving about the amazing confluence of talent and technology that is a dance film festival. Luckily for me (and all of you!) the New York Dance on Camera festival is about to start—it runs from January 30 through February 3 at the Film Society of Lincoln Center.

The festival features everything from documentaries and interviews with dance luminaries (I know I’ll be pushing my way to the front of the line to see Born to Fly: Elizabeth Streb vs. Gravity) to experimental shorts that push the boundaries of what dance can be.

The best thing about dance on camera is that it’s not supposed to take the place of live performance—and I certainly wouldn’t want it to. Instead, it gives viewers a chance to see movement in new, unexpected ways. Are you seeking a little inspiration? Consider the film festival an investment in your own creativity. See you there!
