And that's a wrap on "Dancing with the Stars" Season 24, ladies and gents! It's certainly been one for the books. From injuries to shocking eliminations, let's just say Season 24 has had its emotional ups and downs. But despite all that, the season made for some seriously phenom dancing and some killer performances. And as usual, we've loved watching every second of those cha chas, foxtrots, and waltzes.
Let's get right to the exciting stuff, though: Last night's winning couple of "Dancing with the Stars" is...
I'll admit it: Being relatively new to the whole "DWTS" game, I was doubtful even the super-talented pro dancers could come up with really cool and exciting ways to do ballroom trio numbers. But boy, was I blown away by the creativity and energy of last night's routines. In honor of three turning out to *actually* be a magic number, here are my three favorite trios from Trio Night. (How many times can I say "trio" in this recap before I drive all of us nuts?)
Any time Mandy Moore does anything, anywhere, it's bound to be amazing. (I mean, La La Land? "SYTYCD"? You get the picture.) So as very active members of the Mandy Moore fan club, we were beyond excited that she was a guest judge on "Dancing with the Stars" last night—and on "Movie Night," no less. But we digress. There's a lot of dancing to cover (and two eliminations!), so let's get into it.
Ohhh, Vegas Night. We ❤️ you. The glitz. The glam. The flash. It's almost too much for our "Dancing with the Stars"-loving hearts to bear. Basically, ICYMI, last night's episode did not disappoint. The night kicked off with a fab opening number depicting a Vegas Bachelorette group and quickly turned into a super energetic dance party. Read on for our favorite moments.
To call this season of "DWTS" one of the absolute best is probably an understatement—it had everything: lots of drama, lots of sequins and lots of incredible dancing. But all good things must come to an end, and last night's finale was oh-so bittersweet. Too soon to relive it all? Nah, let's do it.
The three finalists all performed their favorite routine of the season (which wouldn't be judged) before it was time for the final (judged) dance. James and Sharna relived their Foxtrot from Cirque Week, Calvin and Lindsay spiced things up with their tango and Laurie and Val chose their trio with Maks for a double dose of Chmerkovskiy. But after all the nostalgia, it was time to really dance.
James and Sharna have some insane chemistry, and that was on full display during their Foxtrat/Waltz fusion, both of which are James' strongest styles. The judges agreed, awarding them a much-deserved perfect score.
Calvin and Lindsay's Jive and Quickstep fusion is something I'll get to in a minute because I need to first address Calvin's bedazzled blazer: 💯💯💯. Anyway, their fusion was also 💯, and also received a perfect score from the judges, because duh. They were living their best lives last night.
Which brings us to Laurie and Val. I cried the minute Val gave Laurie that heart-melting, big brother "we got this" peck on the forehead, so in other words, I started crying immediately. There's nothing to say about these two except <3 <3 <3. And with that dance, the judges handed out their third perfect score of the evening.
And just like that, the dancing was done and Laurie and Val were crowned the Season 23 champs. Obviously we're all beaming like proud moms over here at DS, and it's safe to say I'm thankful for Team Valaur today (and every day forever). I also have no idea how this season will be topped, but we'll find out soon enough—Season 24's just a few months away! It's been fun, guys, and I'll leave you with this perfect vid. #AlltheFeels.
Whew! "Dancing with the Stars" is always an emotional roller coaster, and no episode is as loaded as the finale. Even having a strong sense of who will win doesn't take away from the tension of a two-night, super-charged big finish.
The darling from down under, Bindi Irwin, took home the Mirror Ball trophy in a well-deserved win. Watching the stars improve week after week is the best part of "DWTS" and Irwin's adaptability, coupled with her too-cute-for-words smile, pretty much made her a shoe-in.
OMG SHE'S SO HAPPY! (photo via Yahoo.com)
Her emotional performance on Monday night set the stage for her big win on Tuesday. She danced a contemporary routine with Derek Hough that had everyone in tears.
On Tuesday, former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter earned perfect 10s for his tango with pro partner Sharna Burgess. It was great to see him kick it up a notch for the finale—and absolutely redeem himself from his tango flub last week—and go out on a high note.
Alek Skarlatos came in third but apparently can't stop, won't stop: He's hitting the road with the Dancing with the Stars Live! Dance All Night tour.
What do you think? Did the right person win? Will Irwin continue to integrate dance into her super inspiring job as a conservationist? We hope so!
