It was dance team mania last night in NYC! The Knicks City Dancers held their second annual “Can You Keep the Rhythm?” Dance Team Challenge, and I was invited. The star-studded event was hosted by April Wilkner of "America’s Next Top Model" fame and judged by singer Kat Deluna and KCD’s own Courtney Galiano. I was lucky enough to sit with two of the pro dancers for the event. Hi Laura! Hi Rosie!
After a few awesome routines performed by the Knicks dancers and the Knicks City Kids (wow, they are good!), the competition began. Six awesome teams came from around the tri-state area to compete, and they really lit up the stage…
Center Stage Dance and Creative Arts, from Bayshore, NY, danced to “Get Me Bodied,” and they must have read our March article “Hairography,” because they definitely made the most of their luscious locks!
The Dancin’ Queens Dance Studio, from Bellerose, NY, danced to “Just Fine.” These ladies really sassed up the night and nailed their jazz routine.
Broadway Dance Academy & Performing Arts rocked out to “Forever.” The group really brightened up the stage with their colorful costumes and had perfect formations. One girl even mastered “the freeze” (a pose done while standing on your hands, no easy feat!).
The top three studios have been entered into an online competition where voters will choose their favorite to dance at halftime at the March 18th Knicks home game. The top three groups (in no particular order) are:
The Studio, who danced to “Tricky." They really nailed their intricate, synchronized movements.
Icon Dance Complex, who did a hip-hop routine to “Move Shake Drop.” This large group is amazingly talented, and the mini dancers definitely kept up with all the hard-hitting!
Performing Arts Dance Academy, who danced to “Technologic.” They had awesome turns and a hard-core attitude.
