Jaimie Goodwin is just 23 years old, but she’s already taken her dance career across the country, around the world and onto the big and small screens.
Jaimie grew up dancing at Denise Wall’s Dance Energy in Virginia Beach, VA. As a member of the studio’s competition team, Jaimie regularly took home top honors, including National Teen Outstanding Dancer and National Senior Outstanding Dancer at New York City Dance Alliance. She also nabbed the National Senior Title at West Coast Dance Explosion before leaving the comp scene for the TV world.
With her strong, powerful legs and insane body control, it’s no surprise that Jaimie became a Top 10 contestant on “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 3. Each week she delivered memorable performances—so memorable, in fact, that “SYTYCD” brought her back as an all-star during Season 8. In between “SYTYCD” jobs, Jaimie was a featured dancer in High School Musical 3: Senior Year, performed in commercials for McDonalds, danced at the 82nd Academy Awards, did guest spots on “Dancing with the Stars” and toured with the Bad Boys of Dance. She has acted as assistant choreographer to Sonya Tayeh on world tours with Kylie Minogue and Miley Cyrus, and this summer she worked as a dancer in the upcoming Rock of Ages movie. Phew! Read on for The Dirt from this beautiful and busy girl.
What did you want to be when you were a teen?
I didn’t always want to be a dancer—I wanted to be a basketball player. I’m 5’3” so thank goodness I didn’t quit dancing for that!
Biggest guilty pleasure:
Lying in bed, snacking & watching “The Office.” When I get a day off, I can do that all day!
Most-played song on your iPod:
“I Miss You” by Beyoncé is hitting the spot right now.
If you weren’t a dancer, what would you be?
A doctor—probably a psychologist. I love learning about the human mind and body. I’ve been taking online courses while I’m pursuing my dance career.
What can’t you live without?
My family and my puppies. (And naps…and massages. Haha.)
Favorite city in the world:
Favorite dancer of all time:
Sylvie Guillem. I love beautiful technique, and she is perfection.
Who would play you in a movie?
Who is your dance crush?
What are your pet peeves?
Lazy dancers, big egos and floppy feet.
Do you have any bad dance habits?
Of course! I sit back in my hips a lot and all my tension goes to my shoulders, arms and hands.
What’s the strangest thing in your dance bag?
Some people think it’s weird that I have jazz shoes and heels in my purse. They’ve come in handy many times!
