7 Back-to School Supplies to Get You Started on the Right Foot

August 22, 2021

Whether we’re prepared to admit it or not, summer is drawing to a close. The fall dance season is here, and with it comes new classes, choreography, and opportunities. So while you’re buying new textbooks and pencils for your academics, why not refresh your dance bag with some new dance supplies? Here are some back-to-dance must-haves.

Toe tape/ Sports tape/ Band-Aids

New year, new blisters! You know it’s true, so stock up early and be the dancer who has extra bandages, toe tape, and sports tape on hand for any bumps and scrapes.

Pen and paper

This year, we’re not forgetting corrections or choreography week-to-week—we’re writing them down and reviewing them before class. Get a notebook and pen that fits in your dance bag, and record your class and rehearsal notes. That way, you can scroll through them before class instead of scrolling on TikTok (or maybe both, we won’t judge).

Masks/ Hand sanitizer

Each studio’s rules regarding health and safety will likely vary this season. But if this pandemic has taught us one thing, it’s that it’s always better to be prepared.

Planner

Keep your jam-packed schedule of classes, rehearsals, competitions, conventions, and yes, homework all organized in one planner. Studies have shown that writing down important reminders, as opposed to inputting them to a calendar app, improves memory recall.

Reusable water bottle

Stay hydrated and keep it eco-friendly by investing in a reusable water bottle.

Grooming supplies

Pack a small bag of supplies like deodorant, hairspray, bobby pins, and hair ties so you’ll be ready for any hair or body emergency

Warm-up tools

Create the pre-class warm-up routine that works for you and invest in a small collection of accessories such as resistance bands, tennis or lacrosse balls, and/or muscle rollers to facilitate it.
