5 Ways to Celebrate Alexander Hamilton's Birthday

January 10, 2019

Today, January 11, is #AlexanderHamiltonDay: A very happy 264th birthday to Alexander Hamilton! Thanks to this most unlikely of Founding Fathers—a brilliant and ballsy orphaned immigrant who dramatically rose, then fell, then rose again—we have possibly the most successful musical of all time. We also, of course, got priceless GIFs such as this one:

*When your crush walks over and you’re trying to act natural but your friends are all like*

Aaaaaaaaaaanyway, while we can’t get you “in the room where it happens” with tickets to the show’s current Broadway, touring, or Puerto Rico productions—the last of which opens tonight!—we CAN offer up some fun ways to fête A.Ham’s day of birth. Just you wait:

Go to Starbucks!

Today, all Starbucks locations in the U.S. will celebrate by playing the Hamilton OBC recording, #Hamildrops, and the Hamilton Mixtape! Thank goodness, because we’re “Helpless” in Friday-night rehearsals without a jolt of caffeine beforehand.

Take This Trivia Quiz!

(L to R) Daveed Diggs as the Marquis de Lafayette and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton

Think you’ve got a “top-notch brain” where LMM’s masterwork is concerned? Prove it, via this pop quiz from PBS.

Brush Up on the Choreo!

Join Tony-winning choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler and OBC dance captain/associate choreographer Stephanie Klemons as they break down about 15 seconds of moves from the show—and just try “not to cry because there’s nothing that his mind can’t dOoooOoo.” (Had to. Sorry.)

Switch Up Your Improv Music!

LMM (who IS the reincarnation of Alexander Hamilton, ICYMI) made this playlist. It’s eclectic and inspiring and sure to make your improv “Non-Stop.”

Watch Broadway’s Continental Army Werk It!

Yes, we did save the best for last. Please enjoy fascinating interviews with and jaw-dropping improv from the squad to end all squads, the amazing dancers of the Hamilton original Broadway cast. We have a feeling the OG A.Ham would be so, so proud of these “young, scrappy, and hungry” artists.

Happy #HamiltonDay, dear HamFam!
