Watch Ellen DeGeneres Surprise the Assistant Principal and Dance Team from That Viral #LevelUpChallenge Video

October 16, 2018

Let’s take a walk down memory lane to this past September, when the #LevelUpChallenge was in full-blown viral mode. Literally thousands of videos of people dancing to Ciara’s song “Level Up” flooded the Internet, but only one truly broke it: an amazing clip of the Wilson Central High School Dance Team—and their Assistant Principal, Ranesa Shipman. Never one to miss out on a viral dance challenge, Ellen DeGeneres decided to have Shipman and the team perform on “The Ellen Show”—and the fun didn’t stop there.

After some adorable fan-girling, Shipman and dance team coach Katie explained how their now-famous rendition of the challenge came to be (Katie choreographed it specifically with the intention of going viral and getting Ellen’s attention, so, well-played 👏). Shipman and the team then performed for Ellen and the audience, which, on any other show, would pretty much be the end of the segment. But “The Ellen Show” is “The Ellen Show” for a reason, and DeGeneres stunned Shipman and the dance team by giving them each a check for a cool $15,000—and their reactions made it that much sweeter. Watch the whole clip below, and prepare for your heart to burst.
