I’ve known Gentrie Hansen, a 14-year-old dancer and all-star cheerleader, since she was born. As my little sister’s best friend, she’s always been around—making up dances, playing in the backyard, pestering me to drive them somewhere. She is sweet and loving, and so full of life you can’t help but smile when you see her twirling around the house.

But things have changed.

Gen hasn’t eaten anything since December—not a crumb, not a drop of water. She has Gastroparesis. Basically, her stomach is paralyzed. Anything that goes in immediately comes back up. At 5 feet 8 inches tall, Gen is now just 88 pounds.

But there is hope.

Doctors want to give Gen a gastric pacemaker, which would shock her stomach into working. It could save her life. But there’s a problem: The FDA has only approved the surgery in adults, and the insurance won’t pay for it. They need $100,000 up front and another $100,000 to $200,000 for the rest of the surgery.

That’s right, Gentrie needs $300,000. And we can help!
