6 Moods Dancers Experience at Their First Rehearsal of the Season

September 9, 2021

Whether we’re ready to admit it or not, summer is officially over. It’s time to trade the hustle of summer intensive season for a different kind of busy—rehearsals! Whether you’re prepping for football halftime shows or this year’s Nutcracker, rehearsals have all dancers feeling some type of way…or many ways. Here are six moods you’re likely to experience at your first rehearsal of the season.

Excitement!

You’re back and better than ever! You’re feeling psyched to reunite with your dance besties after a summer spent apart and thrilled to be back in the rehearsal room.

Focus

Bring it on, choreographers. You’re ready for anything—fast footwork, slow extensions, even downright eccentric movements. It’s the start of the season, and you’re feeling fresh and open-minded.

Stress

Well, maybe this is going to be a little challenging. And you have homework due tomorrow…and you’re not sure if the counts are “5, 6, 7, 8” or “5 and 6, and 7, 8.” You’re getting a bit overwhelmed, but there’s no time to slow down.

Exhaustion

Hello, soreness. Hello, blisters. Your hair is stuck to your forehead with sweat and your feet are aching. Your mind is reeling with new choreography. Time to chug some water.

Determination

Okay, last run of the rehearsal. Take a deep breath and put your game face on. You know this, and you can do this. When you nail that step that was troublesome earlier, you smile extra brightly.

Joy

Whew!
Post-dance endorphins just hit differently. You’re tired, sweaty and so happy. And lucky for you, you’ll get to do it all again tomorrow!
