The Dirt with Amanda Cleghorn

One look at Amanda Cleghorn, and it’s easy to see why she was voted runner-up on “So You Think You Can Dance Canada” Season 3: She’s a full-bodied mover with total command of her instrument. And since she moved to L.A. in 2012, many choreographers have taken note. Cleghorn has performed with Stacey Tookey’s company, Still Motion, and appeared alongside Derek Hough in the movie Make Your Move, with choreography by Tabitha and Napoleon D’umo. She’s also danced on Taylor Swift’s RED Tour, choreographed by Tyce Diorio, and in several of Swift’s music videos. Want to know more about this contemporary dancer? Read on for The Dirt.

My cellphone, even though I hate to admit it.

I still have so much to see, but so far I would say Sydney, Australia.

Who's your dance crush?

Justin Timberlake. If only he wasn't married...

I normally use #nofilter, but I love another app called VSCO.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Ice cream!

What's your biggest guilty pleasure?

What's the strangest thing in your dance bag?

What don't I have in that bag? I bring absolutely everything with me.

What was your most embarrassing onstage moment?

I accidentally jumped into a camera on a large crane. I've got a video for proof! Looking back at it now always makes me laugh.

Meet MDC3: The "World of Dance" Winners Who Defied the Odds

In March 2020, the same day the "World of Dance" cast got word that production would be shutting down due to a global pandemic, MDC3 artists Madison (Madi) Smith, Diego Pasillas and Emma Mather stood shoulder to shoulder onstage, bracing to hear the final results of the competition. The champion title and $1 million prize money were within reach, decided entirely by the three celebrity judges sitting in front of them. As their competitor's scores dropped from the lips of Derek Hough, Jennifer Lopez and Ne-Yo at roughly 2 percentage points below their own, viewers watched realization dawn. MDC3's mouths dropped into gigantic Oh's before their hands slapped over their faces in disbelief. Sparklers shot up while confetti rained down, and the announcer shouted, "MDC3, you are the winner of 'World of Dance'!"

It was an impressive accomplishment for any group of dancers, let alone three teenagers who'd faced rejection from the show three times over. Despite their youth (Madi is 18, Diego is 17 and Emma is 16), this moment was hard earned through years of dedicated patience.
