This Backstage Tour of PNB's "Nutcracker" Is Total Eye Candy

If there's one thing that's better than witnessing The Nutcracker from the audience, it's getting an up-close, behind-the-scenes look at everything that goes into the production. Luckily, Pacific Northwest Ballet agrees with this sentiment—the company just released an amazing video offering a peek backstage.

Led by PNB dancer Elle Macy (who was preparing to dance Dewdrop later in the evening), the video is chock-full of detailed costume shots, a look at the makeup room, a tour of the stage, and much, much more. What's cooler is that we get a glimpse of the beautiful angel costumes featured in our "From the Page to the Stage" feature in action! Macy is super informative, and her enthusiasm for dancing in this holiday staple is apparent from the start (not to mention, her Dewdrop is A+—don't miss the performance footage at the end!). It's usually right around the third or fourth week of "So You Think You Can Dance" audition rounds that we start itching for the live shows. Sure, the auditions are fun, inspiring, and entertaining, but at a certain point, we reach audition saturation. (And the live shows are just so good and feature so much more Cat Deeley.)

All that said, Nigel and co. kept things spicy this week, so our attention remained firmly glued to the screen. (It's been 16 seasons—who are we to doubt Nigel Lythgoe, sir?) Here's how it all went down.

When it comes to injury-prone body parts, knees reign supreme for dancers. But a little strengthening can go a long way in preventing painful outcomes. We turned to Dirk Hartog, a physical therapist with Westside Dance Physical Therapy in NYC, for three exercises that'll support and stabilize your knees.
